I write about art, culture, food, Iowa, LGBTQ issues, politics, and how those things intersect. I’ve contributed to PAPER, VICE, Barneys, Food52, them., Hello Mr., and the Huffington Post. When I’m not freelancing, I oscillate between working on a book about growing up in Iowa and New York as the gay son of a Muslim father and believing I’ll never finish a book.
I currently run marketing and communications for Stack Overflow, the world's largest community for developers. Previously, I was a vice president at GLG. I started my career in communications at Teach For America and spent three years as a senior director at Group SJR, a digital marketing agency within WPP, where I led a diverse portfolio of accounts including General Electric, Goldman Sachs, TED, and Xerox.
Originally from Dubuque, Iowa, I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's degree in creative writing and political science. I live in Brooklyn.
